Arial
After takeoff, you should climb out at rotation speed.
Arial
You should keep your heels on the floor during the takeoff roll.
Arial
You should take off with a tailwind.
Arial
As your speed increases on the takeoff roll, you'll need less rudder pressure.
Arial
If you set the nose attitude too high when you rotate, you might force the airplane into the air too soon.
Arial
You should use forward pressure on the yoke as the airplane accelerates down the runway.
Arial
As you takeoff, you should keep your right hand on the mixture.
Arial
While you're rolling down the runway, you should use the brakes to help you stay on centerline.

Before you taxi onto the runway, make sure that it's clear, and look for other aircraft on approach and departure. Also, check the windsock to see if you'll need to use the crosswind takeoff procedure.
If you're at a controlled airport, you'll need to be cleared to taxi onto the runway and to take off.

As your speed increases, the controls will become more effective. You'll need to reduce rudder pressure to maintain directional control. To take some of the weight off the nosewheel during the takeoff roll, use slight back pressure on the yoke.

When you line up with the centerline, make sure the nosewheel is straight. If the wind is calm or down the runway, neutralize the ailerons.
Pick a point straight ahead to use as a reference for maintaining directional control. Add power smoothly and use right rudder to counteract engine torque. Check the engine instruments to make sure the engine is developing full power and is operating within its limits.
If something's not right, you should abort the takeoff.

If you hold the nosewheel on the runway too long, the airplane will build up too much speed. This will increase your takeoff distance.
Arial
If you use too much back pressure on the yoke, the airplane might lift off before you have enough airspeed. This can cause the airplane to settle back to the runway or keep it from reaching climb speed.

At this point, a total of 1 minute 19 seconds will have passed since the engine gasped its last breath.
Arial
If the average light airplane in a no-power gliding turn loses around 1,000 feet per minute, then you'll have descended 1,316 feet, which would be over 1,000 feet below the ground.
Arial
You might think that a steeper turn would help get you back to the runway quicker, but that's not a good idea. As you increase your bank, not only does your descent rate go up, but so does your stall speed. This puts you in a very dangerous situation when you're so close to the ground.
